Why Eshops Lose Sales

E-commerce lets a business sell 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without geographical limits and at a lower cost than a physical store. But an eshop's success depends on many details. Avoiding the mistakes below can give your sales a real boost.

1. Too Many Checkout Steps

This is the main cause of cart abandonment. The more steps the checkout has, the more likely a buyer is to give up. Ideally, customers review their products, enter their details, shipping address and payment method on one page, then confirm on a second.

2. High or Hidden Shipping Costs

If you charge for shipping, show it early and keep it reasonable. Customers who discover a high fee at the last step feel misled and leave.

3. A Hard-to-Use Cart

Adding and removing products or changing quantities should be easy and should not interrupt browsing. Customers should also be able to review their cart before checkout starts.

4. Forcing Registration Before Purchase

Asking visitors to sign up before they can order puts another obstacle in front of the sale. Take the order first and offer to create an account at the end, using the details already entered.

5. Poor Product Presentation

Thin descriptions and few, small or low-quality photos discourage buying. Write detailed descriptions, use several good photos and consider video.

6. Hidden Contact Details

Visitors need to feel they are dealing with a real business. Show your name, address and phone number clearly, and offer more than one way to get in touch.

7. Poor Categories and No Search

A store without clear categories or a working search is like a supermarket without aisle signs. Make it easy to find products, or customers will go elsewhere.

8. Too Few Payment Methods

Even if many Greek shoppers prefer cash on delivery, offer cards, PayPal and bank transfer too. No sale should be lost over a payment option.

Conclusion

Planning a new eshop or improving an existing one? Etherlogic can help you build a store that turns visitors into customers.
